Overnight, Martial Arts: The Journal of Manny Rivera
I have had an exciting and active day. We have just arrived in the Detroit area and have been here for 1.5 hours. I am having a great time enjoying the Motor City. I decided to call my executive producer, Katie Pavlo, in New York to let her know we were on the way, and she was very kind and took an hour off to talk to me on the phone. We are in a bohemian area of the city, I think the area is called “Swank”. I am in a “French Quarter” area. That is the name of the neighborhood, although it is very gentrified.
We had a relaxing breakfast and got ready for the drive over. My iPod is playing music as I drive…I like to change the songs and use my CD player on my dashboard for nighttime mode. I also have my cassette tape player and can listen to that.
We arrived in Metropolis just past 4 AM. The night started with some Zumba at 10:30 PM! Yup, that was me right there on “this episode of the Manny Diaries”! I had a fantastic time and it was easy to fit in some Zumba into my Zora routine.
Night 2: Moving on…
This morning I was met with a breakfast of muffins, fruit and yogurt. Then I had my first workout at 7 AM…I had 90 minutes of Boot Camp Fitness. My personal trainer has his own gym and every Tuesday he and his staff of instructors come out to the neighborhood for a training session. I usually end up paying him $55 to work out for me. I am taking advantage of the week (the Spring Break period) and going to see a personal trainer for the first time ever.
I am going to contract almost everyone’s option for my current company’s gym, PEXX Workouts. My personal trainer looks similar to most of the company trainers, but has a slightly different physique. ( I will look that up later on…) He is very experienced and runs a small gym in his neighborhood. Since we are both graduates from the same small school, he has been my primary trainer and now he is my professional trainer.
I will be working out every day from Wednesday to Monday until the week is over. After the season I might just find a personal training partner and get my Zumba on with him.
I woke up at 7:30 AM and woke my wife…I called her a “girlie woman” earlier this morning! She couldn’t fall asleep. My daughter was leaving for the day at 3:45 AM. A crazy night!
Bedtime! I am so tired! I got in bed about 10:30 PM and laid there for about 45 minutes! Then got up, got ready for the meeting the next morning, and went for a run. I am in Pittsburgh at 4 AM but still in the middle of the night in my local bed! I am still getting used to that.
